CANON CITY, CO – A Canon City pit bull is back with his owner after being attacked by a man with a Samurai sword.

Police say the homeless male who slashed the dog won’t be charged, since the attack wouldn’t have occurred if the dog had been on a leash. The owner has been given a verbal warning.

It happened Saturday when a male said he struck the dog with a sword to defend himself. The canine was hit twice in the head, causing a fractured skull and other injuries.

The dog, named Bob, will continue to have sinus problems as he recovers. An animal control officer is trying to find eyewitnesses.
