Monday Weather from First Alert 5: Increasing Fire Danger

From Stephen Bowers First Alert 5

Fire danger is increasing and will spike tomorrow as a cold front approaches and whips up the wind. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Tuesday for all areas along I-25 from Castle Rock south through Colorado Springs and Pueblo to Trinidad. This may be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning later today for tomorrow. This means weather conditions are favorable for wildfires to start and spread out of control rapidly.

Smoke from other western wildfires made for a hazy day yesterday. The air quality is suffering as a result, and it likely will suffer today from both particle pollution and increased ozone.

The morning drive will be a bit hazy with a partly cloudy sky. Temperatures will be in the 50’s. This evening’s drive gets a little more cloudy, and you can encounter a few showers up and down I-25 between Colorado Springs and Denver with temperatures in the 80’s. Colorado Springs to Pueblo will be drier with 80’s and 90’s.

Clouds will increase today as moisture over the mountains sets up for showers and thunderstorms over the High Country. Clouds will spread east of the mountains, but most of the rain will stay locked west of the Continental Divide. Temperatures will warm into the upper 70’s and lower 80’s by 10 AM. We will warm through the 80’s from noon to 2 PM with 90’s along the Arkansas Valley and in the Southeastern Plains from 2 PM to 5 PM. Temps in the 80’s and 90’s will persist through this evening with only a stray shower making it east of the mountains.
