Homicide victim identified as retired CSFD veteran

EL PASO COUNTY, CO – A man who served more than 30 years with the Colorado Springs Fire Department was murdered in Falcon, Monday.

Springs Firefighters expressed shock and sadness after hearing 58-year-old Daryl Ritz had been killed.

Ritz was reported missing Monday night. Deputies later found his body off Judge Orr Road. The death has been declared a homicide, but no suspects have been identified.

Ritz was a fire engine driver who retired after 33 years on the job. He leaves behind a wife, two daughters, and many siblings, one of whom is a longtime Colorado Springs Police Officer.

Autopsy results are pending.
