COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – A Colorado Springs Police officer shot and killed a man Wednesday morning, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say CSPD received a call about a belligerent man walking around near the intersection of Delta Dr. and San Marcos Dr. around 7:20 a.m.  Witnesses told police he had a gun in one hand and an alcoholic beverage in the other.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, which has taken over the investigation, isn’t saying exactly what led the officer to shoot the man. News 5 spoke to one man, who didn’t see the shooting, but did hear police yelling at the man and gunshots directly afterward.

Earlier Wednesday morning there was a separate crime scene investigation a little more than a mile and a half away.  Police responded to reports of a shooting on nearby Newton Dr. and found a woman dead inside a home.  No suspect information has been released about that shooting and deputies are not saying whether it is related.
