EL PASO COUNTY, CO – Toxic water from the Widefield aquifer is no longer running through taps in Security, Widefield or Fountain.  Now, all of the Widefield Water District’s customers receive cleaner surface water from the Pueblo Reservoir.

The aquifer was contaminated by man-made chemicals, commonly used in firefighting foam, and has been linked to certain cancers.

The contamination has spawned two class-action lawsuits against companies that manufactured the foam.

The Air Force is also studying its role in the contamination by drilling several test wells around Peterson Air Force Base.
