An Iraqi refugee, accused of shooting Colorado Springs police officer Cem Duzel, will return to court next Wednesday.
Attempted murder charges were filed in Thursday’s court appearance for 31 year old Karrar Al Khamassi.
Police say he shot officer Duzel earlier this month near the Olympic training center.
Prosecutors filed 8 charges against him, including prohibited use of a weapon.
He had been set for deportation for earlier crimes but a judge refused, saying the law was too vague to interpret.
Al Khammasi remains jailed without bond. Officer Duzel is hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
