Prospect Lake Remains Closed Due to Toxic Algae

Prospect Lake remains closed due to elevated levels of toxic blue-green algae that is killing off fish.

The city of Colorado Springs is reminding everyone to avoid the lake and keep pets away.

Erik Rodriguez with Colorado Parks and Recreation says the toxin will dry on the animals fur and when they lick it off, the animal could die.

3 dogs in North Carolina have died due to swimming in a lake where blue green algae levels were high.

The city is currently pumping fresh water into the lake help get rid of the algae.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez says nature will eventually run its course and the bloom will stop.
