Bear Trash Ordinance Begins Sunday March 1st

Starting Sunday March 1st a new ordinance goes into effect for residents living west of I-25 in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs City Council approved a plan that requires residents and businesses to secure their trash to help limit the number of bears looking for food in the area.

Resident must either keep their garbage cans indoors between 7pm and 5am, or purchase a bear resistant trash can.

Violations can lead to fines starting at $100 and escalating up to $500 for a 3rd violation.
