Looking for a little eight-legged love

LA JUNTA – This is probably not the best story if you suffer from Arachnophobia…

It’s just about that special time in a male spider’s life. The annual Tarantula migration around Colorado is set to begin at the end of this month. Thousands of male Tarantulas hit the road in search of a little eight-legged love for the next couple of months.

It’s a pretty amazing sight if you’re not terrified of giant, hairy spiders. In case you want to go experience seeing them in person, one of the best areas to do so is near La Junta at the Comanche National Grassland. To learn more about the area, click here.

Most of the males are right around 10-years old by the time they mate for the first time. Considering the female spiders kill the males after they mate, there’s probably a reason they wait. Meanwhile, female Tarantulas can live to be about 20-years old.
