LARIMER COUNTY – As the number of acres burned grows, so does the number of fire personnel battling The Cameron Peak Fire. Roughly 1591-firefighters are working 16-to-17 hours a day to get the massive wildfire in Larimer County under control.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 205,005 acres have burned about 15-miles southwest of Red Feather Lakes. Crews lost a bit of containment in the past couple of days and it’s at 51%. Strong fire lines are in place on the northern and western edges of the fire and firefighters are working hard to build fire lines everywhere else.

Crews and heavy equipment continued with point protection on Tuesday, and structure prep in Storm Mountain and The Retreat where the fire continued to be active. Helicopters put in 39 hours of flight time supporting ground crews; there were 9 aircraft flying by the end of shift.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect Wednesday and Thursday morning, which may add to the challenges firefighters are up against.

Up to 150-structures have been lost in the blaze and evacuees are at shelters, hotels, motels, and with other family members. Larimer County government is asking for help from the public. Click here to see how you can assist.
