Governor Jared Polis shames Coloradans for increase in Covid-19 cases

COLORADO – State health officials in Colorado are urging residents to keep their Thanksgiving Day gatherings small and Governor Jared Polis says lack of caution by individuals has led to tighter Covid-19 restrictions across much of the state and he says people are hurting small businesses by being careless.

The number of cases statewide doesn’t present a pretty picture. The latest models estimate one in 49-people in the state is currently infected with the illness.  Those numbers are driving concerns that Colorado’s ICU capacity could be compromised.  Officials are asking everyone to double down on precautions such as mask-wearing, social distancing, and hand washing. They’re also concerned about a post-Thanksgiving spike in cases.

Meanwhile, authorities with the Colorado Emergency Operations Center are explaining why a Covid-19 alert was sent to cellphones around the state on Sunday.  They say it was sent to counties in the red level of the state’s Covid-19 risk measurement.  A spokesperson for the EOC says the text was sent to remind Coloradans about the severity of the current surge in Coronavirus cases.  Twenty counties are in the state’s level red category of covid-19 restrictions.
