Man acquitted of charges after 2018 shooting

COLORADO SPRINGS – A 51-year-old Colorado Springs man is now acquitted of Second-Degree Murder charges just a few days after a judge in El Paso County threw out the First-Degree Murder charges against him.

A jury found Tony Lawson not guilty in a shooting that killed 28-year-old Brandon Coffin and wounded three other people in December of 2018. Lawson says the shots were fired while he was trying to protect himself and his son after they were attacked at a street race in an industrial area on Geiger court.
