Letecia Stauch denies public defenders

COLORADO SPRINGS – Letecia Stauch appears unwilling to have two public defenders reappointed to handle her defense on first-degree murder charges. Stauch received permission to defend herself in February after telling an El Paso County judge she didn’t trust her attorneys.

However, she seemed to lose interest in acting as her own counsel and access to the law library was pulled after she failed to use it. On Wednesday, she asked the court to give her a lawyer other than the previous public defenders.  A judge told Stauch she’ll have another hearing next week to determine if there are grounds to allow her to have other lawyers.

Stauch is awaiting trial in the death of her 11-year old stepson Gannon Stauch last year. The boy was reported missing on January 27th, 2020 and his body was found off a freeway in Florida in March.
