Family member identifies victims in Sunday’s mass shooting in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS — CNN has identified the 6 victims who died in a mass shooting at a birthday party early Sunday morning on the southeast side of Colorado Springs. It happened on Preakness Way at the Canterbury Manufactured Home Community. Authorities found 6 adults dead and one with critical injuries who later died at the hospital. Authorities say the gunman was the boyfriend of one of the victims. After he opened fire, he took his own life. The children at the party were not wounded and are now staying with family.

Meanwhile, CNN spoke with Freddy Marquez; he says the party was for his wife Nubia and her brother Melvin. Marquez says he and his wife left a couple of hours before the shooting. He identified the victims as Melvin and Mayra Perez, Joana Cruz, Jose Gutierrez, Sandra Ibarra, and Jose Ibarra. A small memorial has been set up in front of the home where the shooting took place. Colorado Springs police haven’t announced when any further information will be released.
