Colorado Springs Police identify the suspect in the birthday party mass shooting

COLORADO SPRINGS — On Tuesday, CSPD provided an update on their investigation into the mass shooting early Sunday morning at a home on Preakness Way in Colorado Springs. Two families—connected by marriage—gathered to celebrate a birthday when the tragedy took place. Police Chief Vince Nisky says the incident was fueled by domestic violence. The suspect, 28-year-old Teodora Macias, was a boyfriend of one of the victims, and investigators say based on communication they found on his phone, he became angry when he wasn’t invited to the gathering. Seven adults and three children were present, and police say when the gunman arrived, the gunfire was rapid. One adult was in the bathroom at the time of the shooting and was able to escape. Although police say the suspect had a history of jealous and controlling behavior, there were no reports of violence. The gun he used was purchased in 2014 but not by Macias, and investigators say they are still looking into how he took possession of the weapon.
