Group looks to city auditorium as arts center

The future of the Colorado Springs Civic Auditorium will be discussed in a number of meetings beginning this week. A group wants to renovate and revitalize the building at 221 east Kiowa. “Cultural Collective” is a nonprofit that wants to help the auditorium become a center for cultural arts. The group wants to help in the efforts to provide maintenance, safety improvements, acoustical upgrades and infrastructure improvements to attract more cultural events to the facility. Officials with Cultural Collective say many smaller arts groups and organizations need a mid-size, affordable event center like the auditorium. The city has a memorandum of understanding with the group to determine the viability of its plan. Th first public meeting is set for Wednesday at 530 at the auditorium.
