The latest now on the shooting that led to the death of El Paso County Deputy Andrew Peery.

Peery’s Death

Peery was killed after he and other deputies responded to a shooting near a home on Ponderosa Drive in Security Sunday evening. Authorities arriving on scene were immediately met with gunfire. Peery was hit and killed. He was a highly-respected eight-year veteran of the EPSO, a member of the SWAT team and a father. He left behind a wife and children. His family has a long history of law enforcement work.

The Suspect

The suspected shooter is 33-year-old John Paz, who was found dead several hours later. Investigators believe he took his own life. He owned the home where the shooting took place, and was an employee of the Air Force Academy. He worked for the 94th Flying Training Squadron.

Woman’s Body

Authorities say that a woman’s body was found outside the home where the shooting took place. She has not been identified. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Donations to the Peery Family

Family, fellow officers and the community are paying their respects to Peery this morning. Anyone who wants to donate to the Peery family can do so through Chase Bank and their Hugh Martin Fallen Officers Fund. The EPSO says this is the only official fundraiser for the family, and to place “Andrew Perry” in the memo line.
