Public health officials say the omicron variant is one of the dominant strains in recent COVID case numbers. Vaccine clinics across the state, including the Citadel Mall here in the Springs, are offering the booster. El Paso County Public Health Records show that since the start of the month there have been over 800 COVID cases, with 30 people hospitalized for the virus — with two people dying of COVID. Data from the Colorado Department of Public Health show that roughly 36,000 omicron-specific boosters have been administered statewide. Health officials are advising everyone over the age of 12 to get the new boosters, which come from both Pfizer and Moderna.
