Cold Weather: Icy Roads, Accident Alerts

Winter weather has come to Southern Colorado. Snow is forecasted throughout the day this Tuesday, and it means some icy and snowy driving conditions. As of 7 a.m., Colorado Springs and Fountain Police are on accident alert status.

During Alert Status, if you’re involved in an accident and there aren’t any injuries or suspected intoxication, authorities ask drivers to exchange information. For 72 hours after an accident, Fountain Police say drivers can pick up a cold crash report form at their headquarters, any Colorado State Patrol office or online at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/csp/crash-information.

CDOT PLOWING

The Colorado Department of Transportation’s Traffic Management Center says drivers should expect icy and snow conditions on roads between Denver and the Springs today. They have plows out working the roads, and expect improvements to I-25; Highway 85 and other major roadways throughout the day.

PUEBLO WARMING SHELTERS

In Pueblo, a declaration has opened warming shelters across the city. The warming shelters will open later today, and have authority to stay open until Thursday morning. The order says that local churches, synagogues and other religious institutions can use their facilities as temporary shelters for the homeless. It goes into effect at 5 p.m.
