The Salvation Army in Colorado Springs says it’s going to reduce the number of beds for families with children by half as they try and balance their budget. Beginning October 1st the shelter at 709 South Sierra Madre street will only have 15 rooms available for families with children for emergency shelter. Officials say there will also be layoffs of some staff. In a recent survey the number of homeless people in Colorado Springs jumped to more than 17 hundred from just over 11 hundred in last years survey.
