President Donald Trump will announce Monday the move of Space Command from Colorado Springs to Huntsville Alabama. Space Command has been at the center of a fight between Colorado and Alabama for several years. Space Command became fully operational in Colorado Springs almost 2 years ago. President Trump is alleged to have promised Alabama Senator Tommy Tubervile he would move the command to Huntsville Alabama if Tuberville promised to fight the presidential election certification, following Trumps loss to Joe Biden in 2020. In 2023 Biden, despite some reports suggesting the Air Force supported the move to Huntsville, announced Space Command would stay in the springs. The General Accounting Office said in a report the commands position in Colorado Springs was “quote, not sustainable long term. The GAO said Space Command in the springs has ongoing trouble with staffing needs and building space. The command is spread out among 4 buildings, only 2 of which are on military installations.
