Now the real season begins for the Air Force Football team with a road matchup Saturday at Utah State at 7:45 on 740 KVOR. What can we expect from the Falcons? Offensively, I’ll be curious to see what Troy Calhoun does with Quarterbacks Josh Johnson and Liam Szarka. They rotated series against Bucknell. I think he may give both more time, maybe 3-4 series in a row so they can develop some rhythm. Calhoun has said he would prefer using one quarterback throughout the season. I feel we will see more of the fullback game with Dylan Carson, Owen Allen and Terrance Gist.
On Defense the young Falcon secondary will be tested. Bryson Barnes of Utah State is a veteran quarterback and will put 4 and sometimes 5 receivers into the play. The Air Force linebackers will also be tested because both RB’s Miles Davis and Javen Jacobs catch the ball out of the backfield. And Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall is not afraid to use trick plays. Utah State can show a lot of looks on offense and the Air Force Defense will have to be ready. The Aggies also will operate without a huddle. That’s a lot on the plate to deal with.
From the Stat Room: Last year Cade Harris averaged just under 6 touches a game. Against Bucknell he ran it 8 times for 63 yards and added 3 receptions for 86 yards. That’s 149 yards of total offense, and 3 touchdowns. He HAS TO touch the ball more than 6 times a game. Too good a weapon.
Don’t forget, The Troy Calhoun Show, Wednesday night at 630 on KVOR from Colorado’s Rib and Chop House at Dublin and Powers.
