Many school teachers in District 11 went on strike Wednesday morning. They voted on a one day walkout after the district ended a long-standing contract with the teachers union, and replaced it with a handbook that they say doesn’t provide the security and benefits the previous agreement did. Hundreds of teachers walked out of classrooms and are picketing in front of many D-1 schools. District officials say they do have enough substitute teachers to cover the walkout.
