A canine officer is in critical condition after being stabbed numerous times during a domestic dispute Wednesday. Police were called to a housing complex in northeastern Colorado Springs near Black Forest and east Woodmen. A man had barricaded himself. The canine officer Roam and his handler entered the residence. The suspect stabbed the canine officer a number of times before he was finally brought down with chemical irritants and a taser. Roam underwent surgery. Doctors had to amputate his left rear leg. The canine officer is in critical condition. The Colorado Springs Homicide unit has taken over the investigation because this is considered attempted murder of an officer.
