The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s office has ruled an officer involved shooting involving Colorado Springs Police was justified. Authorities responded to a call last March for a man stealing from cars in a parking lot who had threatened at least one person with a gun. Officers confronted Nathanial Altman and ordered him several times to drop the gun. He refused and began to run toward Pikes Peak Avenue where people were on the sidewalk. Officer Carlos Pittman with springs police fired 3 times hitting Altman twice. He died at the scene. The DA’s office said Pittman was too far from police for them to use a taser, and posed an immediate threat to citizens on the sidewalk, in the parking lot, and to police.
