Two months before the Evergreen High School shooting last year the suspect in the attack posted threatening messages online. Law enforcement learned of those posts and requested copies of them from the social media site but did not get them before the attack. Now a Colorado legislator wants to force social media sites to turn over threatening messages to police and the FBI within 24 hours. Colorado legislator Tammy Story says a quicker release of these types of messages could help law enforcement prevent an incident. Currently social media companies have 35 days to respond to the request. A federal bill also being sponsored wants to force social media platforms to respond to FBI subpoenas within 72 hours when dangerous and troubling messages are posted.
