A new report just out says car thefts in Colorado have dropped for 3 consecutive years. The Auto Theft Intelligence Coordination Center, a unit of the Colorado State Patrol, reports car thefts in our state dropped 34% from 2024 to 2025. This is better than the national rate of a 21% decline. Additionally, since 2021 motor vehicle thefts in Colorado are down an impressive 56%. Last year, of the 16, 291 auto thefts reported, 13,084 cars were recovered, which is 80%. Hyundai’s and Kia’s are stolen the most, accounting for 15% of all reported thefts. The State Patrol reminds drivers always take your keys with you. The patrol also gives residents free steering wheel locks, which are available at state patrol offices around Colorado.
