The El Paso County Coroner has identified a man who was shot to death by Colorado Springs police following a weekend altercation. The victim is 40 year old Benjamin Greenfield. He was in a car with a woman when police spotted the vehicle Saturday night near San Miguel and Academy. Police tried to make contact, but the car sped off. In trying to get away the vehicle got stuck. Police ordered both people to exit. The woman got out. Greenfield stayed in the car. Police again ordered him out, at which point Greenfield reportedly pulled a gun and fired one shot. Springs police officers fired back, striking Greenfield who died at a hospital. Greenfield did have a criminal record, but it’s unknown if there were any warrants out for his arrest. And we don’t know why police wanted to stop the car and question the two.
