Lt. General Tony Bauernfeind, the Superintendent at the Air Force Academy has requested early retirement and will be leaving the school by the end of the current school year. Also leaving is the Commandant of Cadets Brigadier General Gavin marks who is also retiring within the next several months. Bauernfeind has only been at the school 2 years. Superintendent terms usually run 3 and sometimes 4 years. There have been reports of instructors, alumni, current students, and parents being unhappy with academy leadership since Bauernfeind took over. Air Force Secretary Troy Meink was quoted as saying “its critically important we get that culture right and we get that leadership right. and I would argue that’s not always been the case.”
