The city of Colorado Springs wants to create its own 911 Authority. Right now, Colorado Springs is part of a 911 regional authority that includes El Paso and Teller Counties. Residents are charged a small fee on their phone bill for 911 services. City leaders are proposing creating a 911 authority just for Colorado Springs, which would allow officials to use those dollars for just city services. Officials also say it would also improve 911 services in the springs. The request must be approved by city council. No comment yet from El Paso or Teller County officials about the proposed change.
