At a meeting Wednesday members of the regional 911 authority were critical of the decision by Colorado Springs officials to leave the authority and form their own 911 jurisdiction. Members say springs city officials gave the authority just a few hours notice of their decision. Springs City Councilman Dave Donelson told KVOR’s Richard Randall the money paid by taxpayers under the current setup is split between the city, El Paso County and Teller County, even though springs residents account for 60 percent of the revenue collected. Colorado Springs officials want to keep that money and put it into public safety budgets.
