Manitou Springs is looking for ways to make up for a shortfall in tax collections. In November Manitou voters will consider raising the towns amusement tax from 5% to 9%. It’s a tax users pay for many manitou attractions like the Cog Railway that draws hundreds of thousands to the town each year. Manitou tax collections have taken a hit since Colorado Springs legalized marijuana sales. Before that area residents bought pot from the two local marijuana shops. Town officials say they have already adjusted budgets with cost cutting measures to maximize tax dollars already coming in.
