A Good Test for Air Force

A good test for Air Force Saturday in Boca Raton against Florida Atlantic.Coaches say you make the most improvement between game 1 and game 2. There’s no doubt the Falcons are playing a much better team in game 2.The Owls were blasted last week by Oklahoma, but everyone may get blasted by the Sooners this year. Here’s what I’ll be looking for on Saturday:

1) AF Defense vs the Florida Atlantic Offense. The Owls run a no huddle, spread offense. They have a dynamic runner in Derek “Motor” Singletary. He scored 32 touchdowns last year and may be a darkhorse Heisman candidate. He is very tough to bring down 1 on 1. The Owls will also throw deep and short, trying to get guys in space. Air Force is going to have tackle very very well, swarm to the ball, and limit yards after the catch.

2) AF Offense vs Florida Atlantic Defense…I think, for the Falcons, the best formula will be long, time consuming drives. Keep FAU’s offense off the field. The Owls have a ton of experience on this side of the ball, but they
may have trouble locking into the option. Air Force must also complete some passes today to keep the Owls off balance. The Falcons may make a change at quarterback. Don’t be surprised to see Isaiah Sanders. Arion Worthman was a bit banged up after Stony Brook and Sanders took a lot of first team reps at practice this week.
And….Florida Atlantic has a ton of team speed. A ton. If Singletary gets past the first line of defense, he is difficult to stop. A great test for John Rudzinski’s defense to see how far they have come from a season ago….Finally..AF needs some big plays on offense. Who steps up? Who makes a 50 yard run? Who hauls in a long touchdown pass? We’ll be watching.
