Tuesday Colorado Springs City Council took the first of two votes on eliminating the Law Enforcement Transparency and Advisory Commission. That vote passed. Earlier this year the commission itself recommended they should be disbanded. Group officials said they felt like they had little power to make changes to the Colorado Springs Police Department. The commission was formed in 2020 following the shooting death of Devon Baily by springs police a year earlier. Officials said they met often with Colorado Springs Police but had little to no power to enact any changes to policies and procedures. One more vote is needed from city council to officially eliminate the commission.
