Colorado Governor Jared Polis is asking the federal government for a major disaster declaration for Pueblo, Custer and Ouray counties for the Aspen Acres and Gold Mountain fires. Mr. Polis is appealing to FEMA for emergency funds following fires that destroyed 324 homes in the Aspen Acres blaze and burned 102 thousand acres. The Gold Mountain fire in Ouray burned 40 thousand acres. And in Pueblo and Custer counties heavy rain from monsoon moisture on the burn scar has pulverized much of the land causing further damage.
