Another Week, and another Big Game
Sports, Football, is fun for everyone when your team is winning. The fans get excited, the team sees a chance to achieve its goals. You can feel the buzz. Last weeks Air Force victory over UNLV put the Falcons in an interesting position as they travel to Laramie to face Wyoming Friday night. Air Force is 3-1 in conference play and joins a number of teams all stacked behind New Mexico with 1 conference loss. The Cowboys are in the same group, only 1 conference setback. When you play meaningful games in October as they relate to the standings, it makes for fun times, especially if you win. And while there is still a lot of football left in the season you can’t help but look at one or two hypotheticals. Should Air Force win, and if New Mexico beats North Dakota State Saturday the Falcons control their own destiny. The Bison would have 2 losses, putting them a game back. Air Force wins the tiebreak with UNLV, and if the Falcons win out, would win every other possible tiebreaker and head to the conference championship game. It’s not lost on the players. Linebacker Dallas Dailey said after losing to North Dakota State he hopes to see them again in December. The Bison, at the moment, is the tiebreaker Air Force can’t win, hence the cheering section for the Lobos Saturday. The Falcons could still get there if North Dakota State wins the regular season crown and Air Force finishes second. After 2 straight losing seasons this team is on a mission to make the 2026 football season memorable. But, you can’t have a hiccup. History shows while not impossible, it is very difficult to get into a title game with 2 conference losses. All those other 1 loss conference foes are dreaming of the same thing at the moment, making for a great conference race. If Air Force continues to pound the rushing game and slow down opposing offenses meaningful games in October turn into HUGE games in November. It’s okay to dream, yes? But it’s not a dream, it’s the reality the Falcons have earned for themselves so far in 2026. That word “earned” is also reserved for the two teams that make the conference championship game. All the Falcons have to do is go get it. One week at a time. One game at a time. Saddle up for Wyoming.
