In KVOR’s Wildfire Watch the very latest on the Hammer fire which started Wednesday afternoon. Sgt Kurt Smith with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office say Thursday morning the blaze has grown to 49 hundred acres with 0% containment. It is burning 7 miles southeast of Fountain north of Hanover and Meridian Road. An evacuation order is still in effect for Hammer Road east to south Peyton Highway and Myers Road north to Squirrel Creek. An evacuation center is open at Hanover Junior Senior High School. If you have animals in the evacuation area you can bring them to the Norris Penrose event Center on Lower Gold Camp Road. Smith said Squirrel Road will be opening sometime today. He added firefighters are concentrating on the north and east sides of the blaze. Officials remain worried about low humidity’s and windy conditions in the area.
