COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – An AMBER Alert issued for 7-year-old America Arellano was cancelled after she was found safe in Aurora.
Aurora Police Department found America safe inside an apartment in the 1300 block of South Geneva Way Wednesday night.
25-year-old Wendy Arellano has been arrested for second degree kidnapping. She took America from a hallway inside Carver Elementary School in Colorado Springs Wednesday morning. She does not have parental rights.
Aurora officers are in the process of arranging the return of America to her foster family.
Detectives are still interested in contacting person of interest Heriberto Gonzalez-Hernandez and are still looking for the 2013 grey Dodge Avenger with Colorado license plate DQH-431.
Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Colorado Intelligence Analysis Center (CIAC), Aurora Police Department, Colorado Springs Airport, Denver International Airport, Colorado State Patrol, and numerous Denver metro agencies were involved in the search.
