Sgt. Major James Sortor Remains Returned to U.S.

The remains of a Fort Carson soldier were returned to the U.S. Monday.

A dignified transfer ceremony took place at Delaware’s Dover Air Force Base.

40-year-old Sgt. Major James Sortor was killed in combat Saturday while serving with the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces group in Afghanistan. Sarton was from Teague, Texas and received over 20 awards during his career that spanned nearly two decades.

According to army Special Operations Spokesperson Lt. Col. Loren Bymer, Sartor will posthumously receive a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
