Baillie convicted of murder in 38-year-old case

It took almost 40 years, but justice has finally been served in a Colorado Springs cold case murder.

In 1976, 38-year-old Janet Conrad was raped and murdered at the Antlers Hotel downtown. She worked there as a housekeeper.

The case went unsolved, but was reopened in 2009, utilizing previously unavailable DNA technology. In 2012, genetic evidence was traced to convicted rapist Robert Baillie. He was already in for a different sexual assault.

The 59-year-old Baillie was convicted Wednesday of First Degree Murder. He’ll be sentenced next week under statutes from 1976…which could mean life in prison with possible parole in 40 years.  Baillie’s attorney plans to appeal.
