COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – We’re just 2 weeks from election day in Colorado Springs.

It will be a runoff election for the city’s next mayor between the John Suthers and Mary Lou Makepeace.

When it comes to the issues, both candidates said there’s no major changes: jobs, infrastructure, and a better relationship with City Council.

But Makepeace did come up with a slight change in the form of a catch phrase “Pot for Potholes.”

“I guess I hadn’t said pot for potholes so I guess that captured people’s attention,” said Makepeace.

As for getting that message out there, that’s where Makepeace made the biggest change.

“Now its how are you going to do that. Its important that we share the vision that we have in specifics not just in generalities,” said Makepeace.

For Suthers, he isn’t changing much, he’s just sticking to his original plan.

“The fact that we got 46% of the vote the first time with 6 candidates was an indication that our message was resonating.

What’s different for him was the addition of a major endorsement from former mayoral candidate Amy Lathen.

“I think a lot of her supporters are good Republicans and see me as right of center and Mary Lou as left of center so I think they’ll go my direction,” said Suthers.

As for the outcome, they both said they’re feeling confident and see this runoff election as a totally different race.

“That’s one thing you can’t do in politics is take anything for granted. You have to keep working on it,” said Suthers.

“People who didn’t vote last time might vote this time, or maybe people who did vote won’t vote this time so it really is a fresh game,” said Makepeace.

The final day to send in your mail-in ballot is May 19.
