COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers says instead of a property tax increase, voters may prefer a sales tax hike to raise more money for roads repairs.
The Gazette reports the mayor suggested a public poll be taken so city officials can look at the data and see how people feel.
A sales tax increase of three-quarters of a cent would add more than $55 million a year to the budget for roads repairs.
The mayor and council plan to explore options in more detail during a retreat Friday.
