The U.S. Army plans to cut around 40,000 soldiers and 17,000 civilian employees within the next few years.
The reduction is a result of budget constraint. We’re expecting to learn specific numbers regarding cuts at Fort Carson by Thursday.
The worst case scenario for the Mountain Post would see the loss of 16,000 soldiers.
Fort Carson is the largest employer in the region, pumping $2.2 billion a year into the local economy.
Any cuts at the Mountain Post will impact all of southern Colorado.Merrit says any reductions will most likely be phased in, instead of all at once.
