COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – A Colorado Springs man is sentenced to 60 years in prison for murdering his wife.

The Gazette reports, 45-year-old Robert Montoya pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and arson.

He stabbed and bludgeoned his wife to death in front of their 12-year-old son last November and knocked the phone out of the boy’s hand as the victim, Alicia Montoya, cried for her son to call 911.

After stabbing her 41 times, Montoya set her body and himself on fire. Before the murder, Alicia Montoya told her husband she was planning to leave him.
