UPDATE:

Police getting answers on Monday as a late night car crash is now classified as street racing gone wrong.
“We had five independent witnesses tell police officers that the vehicle was involved in street racing, prior to striking the back of the other vehicle,” said Colorado Springs Police spokeswoman, Lt. Catherine Buckley.
Eight were injured with two in critical condition as a Honda Civic reportedly plowed into a Ford Explorer that was turning out of a driveway. The driver, Jonton Igwonobe was arrested and charged with vehicular assault, a punishment police say fits the crime.
“His behavior severely impacted other people. And the injuries that these folks sustained are very serious,” said Lt. Buckley.
But often it doesn’t end that way. Making a racing label stick can be tough for police, especially when the other car speeds off after the crash. That’s why people speaking up is paramount.
“When they see something as horrific as this occur, they feel a responsibility to make sure the victims are taking care of and that this individual is arrested for the crimes he committed,” said Lt. Buckley.
Still this is just another in a long-list of racing crashes that stretch across decades of police files. A trend Lt. Buckley says they’re working hard to put the brakes on.
“People a lot of times just look at this on the surface. They think its something fun and sometimes it’s dismissed as bad behavior but it has some very serious consequences,” said Lt. Buckley.
Police are searching for a gold vehicle in connection with this crash, if you have any information on the car or the driver you’re asked to call police immediately.
