COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers says, “The state of the city is good, but the potential for the city is great” during his first State of the City address on Wednesday.
Suthers says our infrastructure is moving along, as is our economy. But he said the state of our roads is poor. A recent study shows the Springs has the 26th worst roads in America. The average driver in Colorado Springs pays more than $700 a year because of the poor road conditions.
Mayor Suthers also pushed for a proposed .62% sales tax increase for 5 years. If passed, it would raise $50 million a year to be used solely for roads. Suthers says the sales tax would cost the average household about $100 per year.
