UPDATE: Apartment fire considered accidental

UPDATE: Investigators say an electrical malfunction caused an apartment fire in Colorado Springs Sunday night.

It happened near Jet Wing and Academy. Two people were rescued from a burning unit. One person was taken to a hospital for burns, another was treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

The flames were confined to one apartment, but at least two others were smoke-damaged.

The fire is considered “accidental”.

Seven displaced residents are being helped by the Red Cross.


 COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – At least two people were transported to the hospital after being caught in a fire at the Southpointe Apartments near Jet Wing and Academy. Their condition is not known at this time.

Colorado Springs Fire Department responded at about midnight to see flames coming from a 3rd floor unit. They deployed a ladder truck and found one of the victims. They had the fire knocked down within a few minutes.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
