COLORADO – Colorado roads are deadlier than ever according to CDOT.
There was a spike in fatal crashes in the past 12 months, up 10% in 2015 compared to the year before. The reason could be an increase in distracted drivers or simply more people on the roads due to Colorado’s growing population.
There were 545 traffic fatalities in 2015, up from the 488 in 2014. 32% were alcohol related, and about half of those who died were not wearing seat belts.
105 motorcyclists died last year, an all-time high in Colorado.
El Paso County had the fourth highest number of deaths in the state, with 44 last year.
