Two grass fires on the Springs west side, officials say one was intentionally set

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Two grass fires on Colorado Springs west side Wednesday, and fire officials say at least one of them was intentionally set.

The blazes were less than a mile apart. The first burned around an acre near Uintah and 19th, and authorities say it was arson. A nearby preschool self-evacuated as a precaution.

Five hours later, another blaze broke out near Fillmore and Mesa. One home was damaged as the flames raced up a hillside.

No word if the fires are connected. An investigation is underway.
