Competency evaluation pushed back for Planned Parenthood shooter

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The man accused of killing three people at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood clinic was back in court Wednesday.

The competency evaluation of suspect Robert Dear was not ready, and the judge continued the hearing until next month.

Dear wants to fire his public defenders and represent himself. The judge ordered the competency hearing before making a ruling on that request. District Attorney Dan May says that even if the evaluation is finished in time for the next hearing, the legal question of Dear’s competency to stand trial may not yet be answered.

Dear is charged with 179 counts for the November mass shooting, including murder and attempted murder. Three people were killed, and nine were injured.
